HAPPY RUM MONTH! That's right, we are dedicating the entire month of August to our favorite spirit, rum. From August 1-31, Cuba Libre in The Quarter at Tropicana Casino & Resort will feature a special rum tasting flight from Don Q, as well as a flight from award-winning Barbados distillery Mount Gay, both available exclusively from August 1-31 during lunch OR dinner.
Then, on August 16 for National Rum Day, all rums and rum cocktails will be offered at half-price at Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. at the bar.
Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum bar will offer the following tasting flights from August 1-31, 2016:
Don Q Flight, $16
Light pilsner gold in color, this rum is aged 3 to 5 years. Pineapple, black pepper and honey permeate warm caramel flavoring. Clean, spicy finish.
Light golden brown in color. Aged 3 to 7 years in whisky and bourbon barrels. Medium-bodied. Molasses, vanilla, tobacco, leather, and oak. Slight sweetness. Pleasant complexity. Dry finish.
A blend of rums aged 3 to 12 years to create blend of sweet and dry finish. Flavors of baked apple, tropical fruits, spice with hints of nuts and smoky vanilla. Wonderful to sip neat or on the rocks.
Mount Gay Flight, $19
The nose is full and rounded with notes of fresh flowers and honey, a little vanilla and tropical fruit. The palate is fruity and well-rounded with notes of banana, vanilla, smoke, toasty oak, spice. The finish is long and spiced with toasty oak.
Single column and double pot distilled, finished in charred bourbon barrels. Bouquet of sultanas, black pepper and vanilla. Taste of cinnamon, spice with a hint of licorice and more vanilla. A long, balanced finish, drifting between sweet and spice.
Aged 7 to 10 years. Oaky, dry and very fragrant with notes of raisin, prunes, currants and banana sweet on the nose . Taste rich, sweet, fruity, tropical with a finish of light char and molasses with a spice on the finish. Award-winning.
