Cuba Libre Employee Support Fund
For nearly 20 years, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar has provided an “escape” to Havana to guests like yourself. It has been our valued staff that has delivered on our mission every day.
On March 16th, no longer having the authority to deliver the Cuba Libre experience in our dining rooms due to government mandates and concern for our employees and guests, we made the heart-wrenching decision to close our 4 restaurants and lay off our 450 employees. We have been moved by the continuing love, support and commitment to our company’s future shown by our employees in the face of their own difficult personal circumstances. We are humbled.
As we work to put our restaurant in a position to re-open when we get the “all-clear”, our employees need your help.
We have created this fund, 100% of which will support our employees who are directly affected by COVID-19 or are otherwise experiencing the most critical hardships. As Cuba Libre’s owners, we have personally seeded the fund with a $10,000 donation and have initiated other funding efforts. An employee-led committee will review requests for support and administer this fund.
If you have enjoyed a meal, a drink or a celebration at Cuba Libre, please consider supporting the people who made that possible by contributing to this fund.
Things Will Get Better
America has always been resilient, and will continue to be. We look forward to helping you “escape” to Havana, and hope you and your loved ones stay well until that time.
Warmest Regards,
Chef Guillermo Pernot, Barry Gutin and Larry Cohen
